Tour Scotland Travel Video Brough of Birsay Lighthouse Orkney Islands



Tour Scotland travel Blog video of Birsay lighthouse located on the Brough of Birsay, an uninhabited tidal island off the north west coast of the mainland on ancestry visit to the Orkney Islands, Scotland. It was designed and built by David Alan Stevenson in 1925. David, was born on 21 July 1854 in Edinburgh. He was a lighthouse engineer who built twenty six lighthouses in and around Scotland. He was part of the famous Stevenson family of lighthouse engineers, including brother Charles Stevenson, uncle Thomas Stevenson, and grandfather Robert Stevenson. His cousin was the author Robert Louis Stevenson. David died at his home, " Troqueer ", in the Kingsknowe area of Edinburgh on 11 April 1938. He is buried in Dean Cemetery.
