Old Travel Blog Photograph Skippers Bridge Langholm Scotland

Old travel Blog photograph of Skippers Bridge over the River Esk by Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. For many years the only bridge across the River Esk lay the better part of a mile to the south of Langholm, at Skipper Bridge. It is a rubble built bridge built around 1700 but widened to the North by John Hotson in 1808. Born near Langholm in Dumfries and Galloway in 1757, Thomas Telford began work as a shepherd boy but went on to become one of Britain’s greatest civil engineers.
