Old Travel Blog Photograph St Joseph's Convent Girvan Scotland

Old travel Blog photograph St Joseph's Convent in Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny became established in Girvan in 1879, when St Joseph’s Convent was built. A school was soon added, with a boarding school opened in 1881, when twenty five destitute children were taken in to be looked after by the sisters. A new primary school was built in 1889, later moving across the road to its present building. Sacred Heart Academy was closed in 1991 with pupils travelling to the new Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr or attending Girvan Academy.
