Old Photograph Rowntree Street Colmonell Scotland

Old photograph of cottages on Rowntree Street in Colmonell located ten miles from Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The River Stinchar runs through the valley and the Colmonell area boasts three ruined castles: Craigneil Castle, Kirkhill Castle, and Knockdolian Castle. The River Stinchar flows south west from the Galloway Forest Park to enter the Firth of Clyde at Ballantrae, about 12 miles South South East of Ailsa Craig. William Hyslop was born on 19 March 1797, in Colmonell, his father, Alexander Hyslop, was 41 and his mother, Grace Adair, was 41. He had at least 4 sons and 3 daughters with Jane McCulloch. He lived in Barrhill, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1881. He died on 20 June 1883, in Colmonell, Ayrshire, Scotland, at the age of 86, and was buried in Colmonell, South Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. It is reputed poet Robert Burns fished the river, and despite being impressed by its beauty, was unable to find words to rhyme with the name. I hope these might be of interest to folks with Scottish ancestry.
