Old photograph of Entertainers on West Sands beach in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Most early beach performers relied on " bottling " sending a troupe member around with a bottle to collect coins from the audience. Bottles were used because they were difficult to steal from, and they were often ceremoniously broken at the end of the day to divide the takings.
