These must be approached with safety in mind; be prepared to stop at the crossing, understand the warnings, lights, barriers, alarms. If the warnings activate, stop and remain stationary until all the warnings stop. Check that the exit is clear before driving across. Half barriers were considered to have an advantage as motorists are less likely to be stranded on the crossing and unable to exit, but cases where impatient motorists have driven around the barriers have raised safety concerns.
