Tour Scotland self catering holiday cottage recommendation in Thurso, Caithness, Scotland.
The Wee Red House is in the centre of Thurso, the most northerly town on the British mainland. It's bright and cheerful, small but almost perfectly formed, close to the railway station and all the town's amenities, and only two minutes' walk from the beach. Visitors love the sea, the walks, the sandy beaches, and the castles and historic sites, Thurso is a great base for exploring the county of Caithness, with its long, dramatic coastline teeming with wildlife, the famous John o'Groats, the Castle of Mey, the Queen Mother's much loved summer home, the old fishing town of Wick with its harbour, Heritage centre and Pulteney Whisky Distillery, RSPB's Forsinard Flows, and the many ancient historic sites. The Wee Red House is a short walk from pubs, cafés, restaurants and takeaways, and not far from Thurso's cinema, though you might prefer to just stay in and relax.
Ground floor apartment very close to Thurso beach and very central in town. Light airy and with all the comforts of home. Perfect for self catering, family holidays. Has well equipped kitchen with washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, cooker, plates, pans etc. Central heating with electric fire in lounge for extra heating if required. Beds made up for arrival and towels and blankets also supplied. Small welcome pack to greet you on your arrival.
Dunnet Head cottage is at the most northerly point of the UK mainland. The cottage is a cosy renovated croft with fabulous views over the Pentland Firth to Orkney. A further twin room with shower can be made available if required. There is a well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge with library. Wildlife watching, walking, fishing, kayaking and diving are all right on the doorstep. We provide route cards so you can enjoy great walks. There are many local attractions such as the Castle of Mey, Caithness Horizons and Mary Anne's cottage for the history buffs. The cottage is at the head of the burgeoning North Highland Way which was launched in 2013. Stay a few days while you orientate yourself and pick up great information packs about walking across the north coast of Scotland. We can cater for cyclists and have two bicycles for rent.
Mey Cliff Cottage is a beautifully appointed purpose built bungalow perched on the far north coast of Scotland in Caithness. It's sits right on the Pentland Firth over looking the Orkney Islands and the Castle of Mey. It is a great place to relax amongst wildlife and superb coastline. All mod-cons provided eg wifi, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, freeview tv.
Rowan Cottage is a pretty, single storey log cabin situated in a tranquil and secluded location in the far north of Scotland; an ideal and affordable priced pet friendly holiday property for couples wishing to explore this fascinating and totally unspoilt region. Set in mature garden grounds it enjoys stunning, uninterrupted views across open countryside and the sea at Dunnet Head with the Orkney Isles clearly visible. The lodge has an attractive open plan lounge with kitchen area at one end Patio doors open onto a secluded raised decking area with outdoor dining table and chairs and BBQ. There is a good sized double bedroom and bright, modern bathroom.
