Old photograph of the loupin-on-stane, a mounting stone used by farmers wives to get on horses in Aberlady, East Lothian, Scotland. In the Middle Ages, Aberlady was an important harbour for fishing, sealing, and whaling. Aberlady also had strong links with the monasteries at Iona and Lindisfarne from the 7th century, and its role was to facilitate the pilgrim traffic between the two sites. Aberlady Parish Church dates back to the 15th century. It was re-built in 1887 Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
