Old Photograph Coll Isle Of Lewis Scotland

Old photograph of the beach below Coll on Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. In the spring of 1921, the farms of Coll and Gress were the site of historic land raids. Local crofters and residents forcibly re-occupied the land during post-WWI unrest over land distribution, challenging industrialist Lord Leverhulme’s ownership plans for the island before he eventually conceded to regional resettlement.
