Old Photographs Ardkinglas House Scotland
Old photograph of Ardkinglas House in Cairndow, Argyll, Scotland. On the lands of Ardkinglas House was once Ardkinglas Castle, a stronghold of the Clan Campbell. Built probably in 1396, by 1769 the castle was described as a ruin. Today no signs of the castle can be found more. James Campbell commissioned in 1773 the architect Robert Adam with the planning of a country house at this location, which was ultimately not built. The present Ardkinglas House, was designed by Robert Lorimer. Ardkinglas House was the location for several films, including The Crow Road, My Life So Far, The Rocket Post, The Water Horse and Max Manus.
