Old Photograph Interior Crofters Cottage Birsay Orkney Islands Scotland

Old photograph of the interior of a Crofters cottage in Birsay on the Orkney Islands, Scotland. In some cottages an internal stone partition separated the humans from the livestock. The animal heat from cattle and sheep effectively radiated through the stone partition to help warm the family’s primary living room.
