Old photograph of the Church of The Sacred Heart in Grangemouth, South of Stirling, Scotland. Gothic Revival church of 1927 by Archibald Macpherson, with pairs of round headed windows. Archibald Macpherson was born in 1851 into a Roman Catholic family, Macpherson was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh. For a time he served as assistant to Robert Rowand Anderson. He was known for his attention to detail and would draw and redraw plans many times until he was happy. Much of his work was undertaken for the Roman Catholic Church, and his most notable building was St. Aloysius' College in Glasgow in 1882. His churches included Duns Roman Catholic Church in 1881, Edinburgh Jesuit Church of the Sacred Heart in Edinburgh in 1884, Our Lady of Loretto and St. Michael in Musselburgh in 1903, St. Nathalan's RC Church, Ballater in 1905, Sacred Heart RC Church in Aberlour in 1908, the Church of the Sacred Heart in Grangemouth in 1925, the RC Church of St. Matthew in Rosewell in 1925 and Our Lady and St. Ninian RC Church in Bannockburn in 1927. His non-ecclesiastical work included a few houses, schools and Glencruitten Golf Club clubhouse in Oban. He died at his home in Edinburgh in 1927.
