Old photograph of thatched cottages in Newton of Falkland near Freuchie, Fife, Scotland. The formal beginning of the village can be traced to 1541, when a series of royal charters divided sections of the original Falkland Estate. These charters granted land, including fractions of the lands of Newton of Falkland, to various tenants in a feudal system
