Old Photograph Crofter Isle of Eigg Scotland

Old photograph of a female crofter on the Isle of Eigg, one of the Small Isles, in the Scottish Inner Hebrides, located South of Isle Of Skye, Scotland. To make way for profitable sheep farming, inhabitants were cleared or moved to smaller crofts. Crofting on Eigg was designed by landlords to provide labor for kelp harvesting, often leaving tenants with insufficient land to survive.
