Old photograph of a horse and cart and people in the WestPort in Dundee, Scotland. Westport was a street leading to the western gate into the city and was where the keys to Dundee were handed to Mary Queen of Scots when she visited in 1561. Her most remembered link with Dundee is that in 1564 she gave The Howff to the citizens. This piece of land had been the garden of Greyfriars Monastery, which was destroyed in 1548. It was used as a graveyard and also as a Howfff, meaning, meeting place, for the Nine Trades of Dundee until the 18th century. History Blog post of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to travel and visit one day.
