Old Photograph Church And Post Office Ascog Scotland

Old photograph of the church and cottage Post Office in Ascog, Isle of Bute, Scotland. The architect of this Scottish church was David Hamilton, who also built Hamilton Palace, Royal Exchange Glasgow, and Toward Castle, and the builder was William Yorke. It was completed in 1843 to seat 250, originally as a Chapel of Ease for Kingarth but the Minister of Kingarth, Rev John Buchanan, changed his mind and the church was never adopted by the Church of Scotland. It was known originally as Kingarth Free Church. The first minister was Rev James Monteith who was inducted on 28th September 1843. The name changed to Ascog Church at the Union of the Churches in 1929.
