Old Photograph Dividing The Catch Auchmithie Scotland

Old photograph of fishermen and fishwives dividing the catch in Auchmithie, Scotland. Dividing the catch was an established ritual. Because the entire community, men at sea and women on the shore, contributed to the physical survival of the fleet, the landed fish were systematically split. Portions were allocated to pay the landowner for beach access, shares went directly to the boat owners and crew, and specific allocations were held for the families to process.
