Old Photograph Catherine Terrace South Queensferry Scotland

Old photograph of houses and people on Catherine Terrace in South Queensferry near Edinburgh, Scotland. The town derives its name from Saint Margaret, the Anglo Saxon princess who became Queen Consort of Scotland after marrying King Malcolm III in the 11th century. She established a free ferry service to transport religious pilgrims across the Forth to the abbeys of Dunfermline and St Andrews, a charitable act that gave rise to the settlement known as the "Queen's Ferry" or Passagium Regine. This ferry service was the primary crossing for over 800 years, helping the town prosper as a royal burgh
