Old Photograph Minto Pit Lochgelly Fife Scotland

Old photograph of Minto Pit by Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland. William Galloway brusher, Francis Street, Lochgelly, was one of the victims of the explosion of fire damp which occurred at No. 2 Pit, Minto colliery, Lochgelly, on the Friday morning of 1 June 1920. He succumbed to his injuries in the Dunfermline and West Fife Hospital. The town of Lochgelly derives its name from the nearby body of water, Loch Gelly. The name comes from the Gaelic Loch Gheallaidh which, loosely translated, means Shining Waters or Loch of Brightness.
