Old photograph of Crofters sheep shearing on the Island Of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Historically, the entire cycle of wool production fell heavily upon the island women. From at least the 18th century, they managed everything from hand shearing the sheep to carding, spinning, weaving, and waulking the heavy cloth.
