Old photograph of a Whaling Ship in Dundee, Scotland. The Dundee Whaling fleet participated in the Arctic Whale and seal hunting for longer than many other countries, Dundee had a presence in the Whaling industry from 1753 starting with the ship called Dundee to just before the start of the Great War. The last custom built steam ship from Alexander Stephen’s yard in Dundee was the famous Terra Nova, which gained fame with the relief mission to the Discovery and was also used by Captain Robert Falcon Scott on his second, doomed expedition to the South Pole.
