Tour Scotland photograph of Balcomie Castle by Crail, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. A sunny, though chilly afternoon near Balcomie Castle which is Fife's most easterly castle. Perhaps its most famous brush with history took place on the 12th of June 1538 when Mary of Guise landed at nearby Fife Ness. She decided to stay at the castle while couriers were sent to James V who was 10 miles up the road in St Andrews. He didn't hang about and promptly arrived at Balcomie to collect his future bride and escort her into St Andrews.
