Tour Scotland Photograph Cistercian Abbey

Tour Scotland photograph of the Cistercian Abbey in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, Scotland. All that remains visible of the Cistercian abbey of Coupar Angus is a ruined gateway at the south west corner of the churchyard adjoining the 19th century Abbey Church. The Cistercian abbey of Coupar was founded in 1161 or 1162. The church was dedicated on the 15th of May, 1233. The last abbot was imposed upon the abbey in 1529 and by 1607 the last of the monks had died. The church had a minister in 1611 but by 1622 the walls were in ruins.
