Tour Scotland travel Blog photography of the Alexander Selkirk Statue on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Lower Largo, East Neuk of Fife. Alexander Selkirk, born Alexander Selcraig in 1676, died 13th December 1721. He was the son of a shoemaker and tanner in Lower Largo, East Neuk of Fife. Later, he was the Scottish sailor who spent four years as a castaway when he was marooned on an uninhabited island. His travails provided the inspiration for Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe.
