Glenluce Abbey is located 15 miles west of Newton Stewart and 10 miles east of Stranraer. It is a Cistercian monastery called also Abbey of Luce or Vallis Lucis and founded around 1190 by Rolland or Lochlann, Lord of Galloway and Constable of Scotland. On 23 January 1497, King James IV erected Ballinclach in Glenluce into a burgh of barony in favour of the abbey, although there is no record of the burgh operating. In 1560, after the Scottish Reformation, John Gordon of Lochinvar took possession of Glenluce Abbey. His servant Cuthbert Kirkpatrick refused entry to the abbot, Thomas Hay. Lochinvar removed himself and his servants in November 1561, and gave the key to Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Earl of Cassilis. Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Earl of Cassilis persuaded one of the monks of the abbey to counterfeit the necessary signatures to a deed conveying the lands of the abbey to him and his heirs. To ensure that the forgery was not discovered he employed a man to murder the monk and then persuaded his uncle, the laird of Bargany, to hang his paid assassin on a trumped up charge of theft. The success of these actions encouraged him to obtain the lands of Crossraguel Abbey through the torturing of Allan Stewart, the commendator at his castle of Dunure. In March 1587 the king's tutor Peter Young tried to find manuscripts of Caesar's Commentary and a Greek Hegisippus that the last Abbot of Glenluce had promised to him.. The ruins were consolidated and partly restored in 1898 by the Glasgow architect, Peter MacGregor Chalmers. The magpie bird is one of our most familiar birds and the source of much myth and legend: '" ne for sorrow, two for a joy "is a rhyme that many children learn. Magpies are, in fact, small crows, and are omnivorous, feeding on carrion, invertebrates, and chicks and eggs. They are sociable birds and are often seen in small groups across many habitats, from gardens to parks, and heaths to hedges. The magpie is an unmistakeable long tailed bird. It is mainly black, with a white belly and white patches on the shoulders and wings. Folklore surrounds the magpie: from providing good luck when greeted, to being in league with the Devil, its ubiquitous presence has provided plenty of opportunities for stories. Many surround religion, including the belief that it didn't mourn with all the other birds at Christ's crucifixion, and that it refused to enter Noah's Ark, preferring to stay on the roof and swear for the whole journey. Starling Birds On Autumn Monday Visit To My Cottage Garden Scone Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K early Autumn Monday wildlife nature camera travel video clip of the sight and sounds of shiny purple and green Starling birds spotted eating on morning visit and trip to my Scottish cottage garden in Scone by Perth, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. The Starling is a familiar bird that breeds in farmland, suburban areas and open woodlands. Seen from a distance, starlings look black with a short tail and pointed yellow bill, but when seen close-to, they are very glossy with a metallic sheen of purples and greens. Starlings forage in lawns, fields, and other open areas with short vegetation. They are primarily insectivores in their natural habitat, but will feed on a wide variety of items outside of their natural diet, including fruits and seeds. The starling can be found throughout lowland Scotland where there is cultivation and pasture. It is generally absent in highlands and in areas dominated by grass or heather moorland. Highest densities are found along the East coast, Central lowlands and Dumfries and Galloway. Blue Tit Birds On Autumn Monday Visit To My Cottage Garden Scone Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K early Autumn Monday wilfdlife nature camera travel video clip of the sight and sounds of colourful Blue Tit birds spotted eating on a morning visit and trip to my Scottish cottage garden in Scone by Perth, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. The blue tit bird is identified by its colourful plumage. Blue tit’s wings, tail and crown are bright blue and their other defining features include a yellow breast, green shading on their back, white cheeks, a single white wing bar, and prominent black stripes on the eyes, bib and collar. Although the female and male are nearly indistinguishable, the female is slightly paler. Juveniles can be distinguished from adults as their colouring is more green than blue, and their cheeks are yellow rather than white. Blue tits are typically found in woodland areas, although they are well adapted to gardens and towns. They are very agile birds. The population of this species has flourished due to the increased availability of nest boxes and garden feeders. Blue tits can be observed in gardens eating at bird feeders or scavenging for food. Some of their favourite foods are insects, sunflower hearts, Mealworms, suet and peanuts. Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings.
