Robin Bird On Autumn Sunday Visit To My Cottage Garden Scone Perth Perthshire Scotland

The Robin bird is a familiar visitor to my garden but this is the first time I have filmed on a night. There are tales stretching back to Norse mythology where the robin is the protector from storms and lightning. And in Celtic folklore the robin is known as the Oak King of Summer. The well known phrase, " When robins appear, loved ones are near ", alludes to the belief that the robin is a messenger. When robins are seen, some people take comfort that loved ones are at peace, and many believe that their lost loved ones are visiting them. Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing. John Smeaton, architect of the Eddystone Lighthouse built this at Perth. Smeaton's bridge was completed in 1771 and is generally known as Perth Bridge. Smeaton was born in Austhorpe, Leeds, England. After studying at Leeds Grammar School he joined his father's law firm, but left to become a mathematical instrument maker, working with Henry Hindley, developing, among other instruments, a pyrometer to study material expansion. In 1750, his premises were in the Great Turnstile in Holborn. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753 and in 1759 won the Copley Medal for his research into the mechanics of waterwheels and windmills. Employing his skills as a mechanical engineer, he devised a water engine for the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in 1761 and a watermill at Alston, Cumbria in 1767, he is credited by some with inventing the cast iron axle shaft for water wheels. In 1782 he built the Chimney Mill at Spital Tongues in Newcastle upon Tyne, the first 5 sailed smock mill in Britain. He also improved Thomas Newcomen's atmospheric engine, erecting one at Chacewater mine, Wheal Busy, in Cornwall in 1775. Smeaton died on 28 October 1792, after suffering a stroke while walking in the garden of his family home at Austhorpe, and was buried in the parish church at Whitkirk, West Yorkshire. He is highly regarded by other engineers, having contributed to the Lunar Society and founded the Society of Civil Engineers in 1771. The River Tay, Scottish Gaelic: Tatha, is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh longest in the United Kingdom. Early English Gothic Church by John Honeyman 1871. Its impressive steeple is a much photographed landmark of Perth. The building in Tay Street that became St Matthews was designed by John Honeyman and built between 1869 and 1871. It is Victorian Gothic in style, and a Session room was added in 1872. A Mission Hall was built in 1880 and a further large hall was added in 1896, when the re-decorated church was opened. John Honeyman was born at 21 Carlton Place, Glasgow on 11 August 1831, the third son of John Honeyman JP of the corn factors John Honeyman & Company, and his wife Isabella. According to the Gospels, Saint Matthew was a 1st century Galilean, presumably born in Galilee, which was not part of Judea or the Roman Judaea province, the son of Alphaeus. As a tax collector, he would probably have been literate and could write highly educated Greek. His fellow Jews would have despised him for what was seen as collaborating with the Roman occupation force. After his call, Saint Matthew invited Jesus for a feast. On seeing this, the Scribes and the Pharisees criticized Jesus for eating with tax collectors and sinners. This prompted Jesus to answer, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. " Matthew is recognized as a saint in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran and Anglican churches. His feast day is celebrated on 21 September in the West and 16 November in the East. Those churches which follow the traditional Julian calendar would keep the day on 29 November of the modern Gregorian calendar, being 16 November in the Julian calendar.
