This Scottish village is seven miles from the town of St Andrews and near to the villages of Lucklawhill, Guardbridge, Dairsie and Leuchars. Now largely a dormitory settlement, it was once a weaving village. Balmullo was the home of the picture postcard cartoonist Martin Anderson known as Cynicus, whose red sandstone Cynicus Castle was demolished in 1939, seven years after his death. Martin Anderson was born in Leuchars, Fife, in 1854. After his mother, Margaret Martin, separated from his father, she moved with her children to Cambuslang, Glasgow. Anderson studied at Glasgow School of Art under Robert Greenlees, in Ingram Street Glasgow. When he was 19, he founded The St. Mungo Art Club in Glasgow, intended to be an alternative to the grander Glasgow Art Club. In 1877, he began to provide small illustrations for serial stories in the short running News of the Week. In 1878 his painting The Music Lesson was accepted for the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition. In 1879, age 24, he decided to move to London, England. In 1924, his Edinburgh shop was destroyed by fire, everything inside it was lost, and he did not have the funds to repair and restock it. He retired to his castle-like mansion in Balmullo to live in increasing poverty. He died suddenly on 14 April 1932 and was buried in the Martin family grave in Tayport Old Churchyard. Tour Scotland short early Spring 4K Monday wildlife nature camera travel video clip of the sight and sounds of a Grey Squirrel spotted eating on a morning visit and trip to my cottage garden in Scone by Perth, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. As its name suggests, this squirrel typically has a grey coat with white undersides, though the coat colour can also be quite brown at times. Grey squirrels are mainly herbivorous, eating acorns, hazel nuts, berries, fungi, buds and shoots, and even bark. The grey squirrel was introduced to Great Britain in the middle of the 19th century. There is now an estimated population of 2 million making them much more common than the native red squirrel. They arrived in England from North America and are now one of Britain's most well known and frequently seen mammals, with an estimated population of 2 million. It is a myth that grey squirrels chase red squirrels away. Greys are just more adaptable to new surroundings. Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Spring Road Trip Drive With Bagpipes Music On History Visit To Kinross Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K early Spring travel video of a road trip drive, with Scottish bagpipes music, on the B996 route from Fife, to the High Street on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to Kinross, Perthshire, Britain, United Kingdom. Kinross is located around 13 miles South of Perth, Perthshire, and around 20 miles North West of Edinburgh. Kinross became a staging post on the Great North Road in the 18th and 19th centuries and was a centre for weaving and by the late 20th century it became a world leader in cashmere weaving. Kinross also has a connection with the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. His nephew, Robert Burns Begg, was the local Kinross teacher for 51 years, he married Grace Beveridge and they had 10 children. Kinross is the traditional county town of the historic county of Kinross-shire. Andrew Barlass was born on September 30, 1822, in Kinross. He emigrated to the United States and settled in the town of Harmony, Rock County, Wisconsin. His post office address was the community of Emerald Grove. Barlass was a farmer and raised livestock. He served on the Harmony Town Board and was chairman of the town board. He also served on the school board and also served on the Rock County Board of Supervisors. Barlass also served as town assessor and justice of the peace. In 1874, 1875, and 1876, Barlass served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Republican. Barlass was involved with the Free Soil Party before he joined the Republican Party. Barlass was involved with the Harmony town insurance company. Barlass died on July 26, 1895 of injuries after being kicked by a horse on his farm in the town of Harmony. Before the construction of the parallel M90 motorway, this was the only serious road north towards Perth. The B996 number has now been used for all the sections of former A90 that weren't candidates for transference to another A road; consequently the road appears and disappears, hidden under a handful of other routes. So all the B996 is doing is joining up the dots; a bit unfair really for a road which was so important for so long. Blackbird On Early Spring Monday Visit To My Cottage Garden Scone Perth Perthshire Scotland

As the name suggests, male blackbirds are entirely black in colour. Males have a bright yellow bill and distinctive yellow eye ring. This widespread bird is a common visitor to United Kingdom gardens, and has adapted well to suburban areas, it’s often possible to get quite close. It can also be found in woodland and grassland areas, but you’re much less likely to see it on areas of higher ground and in some parts of Scotland, Common and widespread across Britain, the blackbird population is currently stable, although it has seen periods of decline in the past. One of the biggest threats is lack of food availability, particularly when the weather is dry. Leaving mealworms and ground feeder mix out on bird tables and planting bushes that attract caterpillars to your garden are great ways to help blackbirds. If you were to believe various myths and folktales, you’d find this solitary, territorial bird to be imbued with evil and supernatural powers. Welsh poet R. S. Thomas observed that there was “ a suggestion of dark Places ” about the blackbird that was at odds with its beautiful song.
