William Cash, from Strathmiglo, was a mariner who ferried Scottish immigrants to the New World. After a few trips, he decided to stay in the USA himself, and settled in Salem, Massachusetts. On one trip, he brought his nephew with him, also from Strathmiglo, and that nephew decided to stay as well. This was in the 1650s. The elder William Cash stayed in Salem, and became a prominent citizen, serving on a jury for a murder trial. The records for this trial, and William's last will and testament, still remain in the Salem town hall. The younger William Cash moved south, to Westmoreland County, Virginia and his descendants spread through Virginia, Georgia and Arkansas. The grandfather of Johnny cash, William Cash, settled in Arkansas. His youngest son, Ray Cash was born in 1897. Misty Hogmanay Drive To Outlander Location On History Visit To Falkland Village Fife Scotland

One of the first scenes for Outlander was filmed in the picturesque town of Falkland, which substituted for 1940s Inverness. Hogmanay is the Scots word for the last day of the year in this case New Year's Eve, Sunday, December 31st, 2023. Falkland is where Claire and Frank stay on their second honeymoon. The Covenanter Hotel feature as Mrs Baird's guesthouse; the Bruce Fountain, where the ghost of Jamie looks up at Claire's room; Lomond Pharmacy which doubles as Campbell's Coffee Shop; and Fayre Earth Gift Shop as Farrell's Hardware and Furniture Store, where Claire stops to look at a vase in the window. Falkland Palace is a royal palace of the Scottish Kings. Before Falkland Palace was built a hunting lodge existed on the site in the 12th century. This lodge was expanded in the 13th century and became a castle which was owned by the Earls of Fife, the famous Clan MacDuff. The castle was built here because the area could be easily defended as it was on a slight hill. The surrounding land eventually became the Palace gardens. Winter Waterfall And Sleet Falling On Visit To River Braan Hermitage Highland Perthshire Scotland

This stretch of Perthshire forest was originally designed as a pleasure ground in the 18th century for the Dukes of Atholl. The River Braan, Scottish Gaelic: Breamhainn, is a tributary of the River Tay in Scotland. Within the county of Perth and Kinross, it flows 11 miles eastwards from Loch Freuchie, near Amulree, and joins the River Tay near Dunkeld. The name Braan is likely of Pritenic origin and derived from breμ, meaning bellow, bray or roar, from the Welsh brefu. A similar etymological root underlies the names of the rivers Breamish in Northumberland, England and the Brefi in Ceredigion, Wales. Winter Snow Smeatons Bridge Over River Tay On Visit To Perth Perthshire Scotland

John Smeaton, architect of the Eddystone Lighthouse built this at Perth. Smeaton's bridge was completed in 1771and is generally known as Perth Bridge. Smeaton was born in Austhorpe, Leeds, England. After studying at Leeds Grammar School he joined his father's law firm, but left to become a mathematical instrument maker, working with Henry Hindley, developing, among other instruments, a pyrometer to study material expansion. In 1750, his premises were in the Great Turnstile in Holborn. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753 and in 1759 won the Copley Medal for his research into the mechanics of waterwheels and windmills. Employing his skills as a mechanical engineer, he devised a water engine for the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in 1761 and a watermill at Alston, Cumbria in 1767, he is credited by some with inventing the cast iron axle shaft for water wheels. In 1782 he built the Chimney Mill at Spital Tongues in Newcastle upon Tyne, the first 5 sailed smock mill in Britain. He also improved Thomas Newcomen's atmospheric engine, erecting one at Chacewater mine, Wheal Busy, in Cornwall in 1775. Smeaton died on 28 October 1792, after suffering a stroke while walking in the garden of his family home at Austhorpe, and was buried in the parish church at Whitkirk, West Yorkshire. He is highly regarded by other engineers, having contributed to the Lunar Society and founded the Society of Civil Engineers in 1771. The River Tay, Scottish Gaelic: Tatha, is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh longest in the United Kingdom. The Tay originates in western Scotland on the slopes of Ben Lui mountain, Scottish Gaelic: Beinn Laoigh, then flows easterly across the Highlands, through Loch Dochart, Loch Iubhair and Loch Tay, then continues east through Strathtay, in the centre of Scotland, then south east through Perth, where it becomes tidal, to its mouth at the Firth of Tay, south of Dundee in Tayside. Winter Snow Visit To Rumbling Bridge Falls River Braan Highland Perthshire Scotland

The old stone bridge spans the gorge high above the deep, rocky narrows and takes its name from the ferocious rumbling of the River Braan below. The eminent Victorian English painter, Sir John Everett Millais, born 8 June 1829, died 13 August 1896, one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, stayed at Rumbling Bridge Cottage in the 1870’s when he visited Perthshire on a hunting and fishing trip and two of his landscape pictures The Sound of Many Waters and St Martin's Summer were inspire by the River Braan. Queen Victoria had also been enthused when she visited the bridge in 1865 and wrote that the flow was most splendid and that swollen by rain, it came down with an immense volume of water, with a deafening noise.
