Tour Scotland Video Early Winter Drive Glen Quaich Highland Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of part of an early Winter road trip drive on the single track road, with passing places, through Glen Quaich on ancestry visit to Highland Perthshire, Scotland. Glen Quaich gets its name from the River Quaich which runs through it into Loch Freuchie. The clearances in Breadalbane, did not occur until the 1830’s, under the command of the Second Marquis of Breadalbane. In 1835, the factor, James Wyllie, had cleared the entire population of Glenquaich, with most Scots in the Glen taking flight by sea and populating lands in the new world, including the Huron settlement in Western Ontario and North Easthope, County of Perth, Ontario, Canada. There, they settled with other families from Amulree, Auchnafauld, Aberfeldy and Kenmore. All areas covered by the events of the 1830 clearances.

Tour Scotland Video Early Winter Sunset Loch Tay Highland Perthshire

Tour Scotland early Winter video of sunset reflections in the water of Loch Tay, a freshwater loch in the central highlands, on ancestry visit to Highland Perthshire, Scotland. Sunset at 15:59 on Wednesday, 22 November 2017. Ben Lawers on its north shore is, at 3,983 feet, is the tenth highest mountain in the British Isles. The loch is a popular spot for salmon fishing, and many of its surroundings feature in the traditional Scottish Loch Tay Boat Song.

When I've done the work of day
And I row my boat away
Down the waters of Loch Tay
When the evening light is falling
Then I look towards Ben Lawers
Where the after glories glow
And I dream on two bright eyes
With a merry mouth below

She's my beauteous nighean ruadh
She's my joy and sorrow too
Though I own she is not true
Ah, but I cannot live without her
For my heart's a boat in tow
And I'd give the world to know
If she means to let me go
As I sing hori horo

Nighean ruadh, your lovely hair
Has more beauty I declare
Than all the tresses fair
From Killin to Aberfeldy
Be they lint-white, gold or brown
Be they blacker than the sloe
They mean not as much to me
As a melting flake of snow

And her dance is like the gleam
Of the sunlight on the stream
And the songs the wee folk sing
They're the songs she sings at milking
But my heart is full of woe
For last night she bade me go
And the tears begin to flow
As I sing hori horo

When I've done the work of day
And I row my boat away
Down the waters of Loch Tay
When the evening light is falling
Then I look towards Ben Lawers
Where the after glories glow
And I dream on two bright eyes
With a merry mouth below

She's my beauteous nighean ruadh
She's my joy and sorrow too
Though I own she is not true
Ah, but I cannot live without her
For my heart's a boat in tow
And I'd give the world to know
If she means to let me go
As I sing hori horo

Tour Scotland Video Early Winter Drive On Ben Lawers To Bridge Of Balgie Road Highlands

Tour Scotland video of part of an early Winter road trip drive on the single track road, with passing places, from below Ben Lawers mountain to Bridge of Balgie, on visit to the Southern part of the Scottish Highlands of Perthshire, Scotland. Prior to the 14th century this area was part of the lands of Clan MacMillan. The land was confiscated from the Chalmers family in 1473 by King James III and given to Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy after Thomas Chalmers was implicated in the murder of King James I. The road while open today is often closed after heavy snowfall. A single track road or one lane road is a road that permits two way travel but is not wide enough in most places to allow vehicles to pass one another, although sometimes two compact cars can pass. This kind of road is common in rural areas across the United Kingdom and elsewhere. The term is widely used in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands and Islands.

Tour Scotland Video Early Winter Drive on A93 Road Through Glenshee Scottish Highlands

Tour Scotland video of an early Winter road trip drive on the A93 road through Glenshee on visit to the Eastern Highlands of Perthshire, Scotland. The A93 road, part of General Wade's military road from Perth to Fort George, runs north through the glen and on into Glen Beag, where it crosses the Cairnwell Pass, at 2200 feet above sea level the highest public road in the UK. The road climbing to the summit is now wide and straight but until the late 1960s included two notorious hair-pin bends with a 1 in 3 (33%) gradient known as the Devil's Elbow.
