Tour Scotland Video Photographs Military Re enactment Balhousie Castle Perth Perthshire



Tour Scotland wee video of photographs of a military re enactment between Redcoat soldiers and Jacobites on ancestry visit to the grounds of Balhousie Castle home of the Black Watch Museum in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The British government supplied their soldiers with uniforms that were dyed with madder because it was cheaper. Officers, who supplied their own uniforms, preferred the brighter red of cochineal for their jackets. Red was the symbol of power and prestige, not some cover up for blood. Jacobites were adherents of the exiled branch of the house of Stuart who sought to restore King James II and his descendants to the English and Scottish thrones after the Glorious Revolution of 1688. They take their name from the Latin form ( Jacobus ) of the name James.

Tour Scotland Video Black Watch Memorial Dundee Tayside



Tour Scotland travel video of of the Black Watch Memorial on ancestry visit to Dundee, Tayside, Scotland. A monument to the north of Dundee off the main road from Dundee to Forfar, at the bottom of Powrie Brae, the Black Watch Memorial was erected in memory of those 440 men recruited from Dundee and Angus to serve in the Black Watch, 4th and 5th Battalions, who died during the Second World War. Unveiled in 1959 by HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in front of 3000 people, the bronze memorial takes the form of a soldier in Black Watch service uniform looking down over the city.

Tour Scotland Video Photographs March Small Group Tour Church And Cemetery Kinross Perthshire



Tour Scotland wee travel video of photography from a March small group tour on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to the parish cemetery and church in Kinross, Perthshire. Kinross Parish Church was designed by George Angus in 1832 in a Tudor Gothic style on a large scale, with a tall west tower. It occupies the highest point of the burgh. George Angus used almost identical designs in Fife at Kingskettle and Kincardine. Kinross Parish Church also lies on the St.Margaret Pilgrim Route The kirkyard also dates from 1832. Internal features include memorial tablets to the Grahams of Kinross and to Colonel Robert Burns-Begg, a descendant of Isobel Burns, youngest sister of Robert Burns. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
