Old Photograph Brewery East Kilbride Scotland

Old photograph of workers outside a Brewery in East Kilbride, Ayrshire, Scotland. William Allison was born on January 1, 1827 in East Kilbride, Scotland. He married marry Mary Crockett and they had seven children. In 1851, Allison settled in Vernon, Wisconsin, America. He later moved to Maxville, Wisconsin, where he would own a farm. Allison was a member of the Wisconsin Assembly in 1880. Other positions he held include school board member. He was a Republican. A son, James Allison, would also become a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Allison died in 1882. He was a Presbyterian.

James Livingston was born in East Kilbride on November 29, 1838, the son of a weaver. He worked at weaving as a youth and then emigrated to Perth County, Canada West in 1856. A year later, Livingston moved to Conestogo in Waterloo County where he worked for flax growers, soon afterwards becoming manager. In 1865, he went into business with his brother growing flax at Wellesley. He represented Waterloo South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Canada, from 1879 to 1882 and in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1900 as a Liberal member. Livingston married Louise Liersch in 1861, with whom he had 12 children: eight daughters and four sons. He died in Kitchener at the age of 81.

Old Photograph Loupin On Stane East Kilbride Scotland

Old photograph of a Loupin On Stane in East Kilbride, Ayrshire, Scotland. A mounting block, horse block, or in Scots a loupin on stane is an assistance for mounting and dismounting a horse or cart, especially for the young, elderly or infirm. They were especially useful for women riding sidesaddle, allowing a horse to be mounted without a loss of modesty. In East Kilbride there is an ancient Coaching Inn which is still in use today. Outside the inn is the Loupin On Stane, used by coast passenger and horse riders to assist in mounting and dismounting.
