Tour Scotland Autumn Video Sunset Elie East Neuk of Fife

Tour Scotland Autumn travel video of sunset at the Elie Ness Lighthouse on history visit and trip to the coast of Elie, East Neuk of Fife. Lighthouse was built following shipowners’ complaints that they couldn’t see the Isle of May or Inchkeith lighthouses in poor weather. Elie and Earlsferry is a coastal village and former royal burgh in Fife, and parish, Scotland, situated within the East Neuk beside Chapel Ness on the north coast of the Firth of Forth, eight miles east of Leven. The burgh comprised the linked villages of Elie and Earlsferry, which were formally merged in 1930 by the Local Government Act of 1929. To the north is the village of Kilconquhar and Loch of Kilconquhar. Golfers, clubmakers and course designers James Braid, Archie Simpson, and Isaac Mackie were born in Earlsferry. The film The Winter Guest, starring Emma Thompson and Phyllida Law, directed by Alan Rickman, was filmed here. The famous Floral clock Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh was originally constructed in 1903 using the clock mechanism salvaged from Elie Parish Church. In recent decades, the town has become a very popular destination for wealthy residents of Glasgow and Edinburgh. In the summer months the town's population is several times higher than it is during the winter. Attractions include the beach, watersports, golf, restaurants, surfing and sailing.

Tour Scotland Autumn Photograph Video Sunset St Monans East Neuk Of Fife

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph shot this evening of sunset behind the old church by the sea in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland.

Tour Scotland Autumn video shot this evening of sunset behind the old church by the sea in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. St Monans Church is situated within its kirkyard just to the west of the village on the very edge of the sea. It has a very dramatic setting, perched on a low rock, reached over a small valley with a burn. As seen from most directions it has the sea as a backdrop. A more modern cemetery stands further westwards on the upper slopes of the little hill. This contains the local war memorial. Standing at the extreme west end of this a romantic ruin can be viewed across fields, again perched on the sea edge. It is often said that St Monans is the church nearest the sea in the whole of Scotland.

Tour Scotland Autumn Photographs Cathedral Ruins St Andrews

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph shot today of the ruins of the Cathedral in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The 16th Century precinct wall encloses the cathedral ruins and the church of St Regulus also known as St Rule. The imposing St Regulus Church with its lofty western tower may well have been the shrine built to shelter the relics of Saint Andrew. Queen Margaret's son, Alexander I, nominated Robert, Prior of Scone as Bishop of St Andrews, and it was he who built the church between 1127 and 1144. The Square Tower has a magnificent panorama of St Andrews. Bishop Robert founded the priory around 1159 and his successor Bishop Arnold began work on the new cathedral, which was consecrated in 1318 by Bishop Lamberton in the presence of Robert the Bruce. Only the 12th Century east end, late 13th Century west gables and the south wall of the nave remain of this once immense building with its 10 bay nave. Following the troubles of the Reformation. subsequent neglect and 17th Century quarrying for stone, this once noble building was reduced to the the ruins you can see now. The remains of what was Scotland's largest and most magnificent church and the graveyard are most definitely worth a visit.
