Tour Scotland Video Smallpipes St Ninian's Cathedral Perth Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of a lament played on the smallpipes in St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The group the Odd Alliance playing in St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth. Scottish Smallpipes are distinguished from the Northumbrian smallpipes by having an open end to the chanter, and usually by the lack of keys. This means that the sound of the chanter is continuous, rather than staccato, and that its range is only nine notes, rather than the nearly two octaves of the later 18th/19th century style Northumbrian pipes. A further distinction from the Northumbrian smallpipes is that the Scottish Smallpipes lack an unbroken line of traditional playing.

Tour Scotland photograph of a stained glass window in St Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, Dundee, Scotland. St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in the city of Dundee, Scotland. It is the Cathedral and administrative centre of the Diocese of Brechin in the Scottish Episcopal Church. Built on the site of the medieval seat of power in the area, the castle which formerly stood on the site had been besieged by the armies of William Wallace, Andrew de Moray and later by Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. The stronghold was destroyed during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. A tiny portion of the castle still remains within the Cathedral grounds.

Tour Scotland Photographs Howff Graveyard Dundee October 2nd

Tour Scotland photograph shot today of the Howff Graveyard in Dundee, Scotland. Overcast and often rainy today. Graveyard though, was brightened up by some flowers in bloom. This burial ground was formerly part of the lands of the Greyfriars granted by Mary Queen of Scots to the burgh of Dundee in 1564. The name Howff which means, meeting place, derives from the fact that the Dundee Incorporated Trades met here until 1776.
