Tour Scotland photograph shot this evening of sunset over Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Shot these photographs this evening from Perth Bridge, also known as Smeaton's Bridge and, locally, the Old Bridge. It is a toll-free bridge in the town of Perth. It spans the River Tay, connecting Perth, on the eastern side of the river, to Bridgend, on its western side, carrying both automotive and pedestrian traffic of West Bridge Street.

Tour Scotland Video Black Watch Memorial Window St John's Kirk Perth Perthshire



Tour Scotland video of the Black Watch Memorial Window in St John's Kirk, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. This window was unveiled by H.M.Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother, in 1955. It is dedicated to the Officers and men of the 6th Battalion Black Watch who gave their lives in the Second World War. On the outbreak of war there were seven Black Watch battalions, for in addition to the Regular 1st and 2nd Battalions and 3rd Special Reserve Battalion there were a further four Territorial ones which had become part of the Regiment in 1908. They were the 4th Dundee, 5th Angus, 6th Perthshire and the 7th Battalion from Fife.

Tour Scotland photograph of the Neil Gow Stained Glass Window in St John's Kirk, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. This window, the work of Louis Davis, was the gift of Neil Gow, of Perth, in memory of his parents. Louis Davis, born May 1860, died 1941, was an English watercolourist, book illustrator and stained-glass artist. He was active in the Arts and Crafts Movement and Nikolaus Pevsner referred to him as the last of the Pre-Raphaelites.

Tour Scotland Photographs Video John Ritchie Stained Glass Window Perth Perthshire

Tour Scotland photograph of the John Ritchie Stained Glass Window in St John's Kirk, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. This window, the work of Herbert Hendrie was the gift of Mrs Ritchie, in memory of her husband, John Ritchie, Sheriff Clerk in Perth, who died in 1923. Herbert Hendrie, born 1887, died 1946, was a British stained glass artist. He is known for his strong simple designs with scintillating jewel like effects. Among his best known works are the fifteen windows for Kippen church and the tall stained glass windows for Liverpool Cathedral in England.

The surname as MacRitchie is mainly found in the Highlands, and more usually without " Mac " in Southern Scotland and the English border counties. Early examples include Duncan Richie, a kings messenger in Perth in 1505, John Riche who witnessed an instrument of sasine in Brechin in the same year, and Robert McRichie also known as Makryche, of Glenshee in 1571, whilst Duncan Riche was the king's sheriff of Inverness in the Highlands in 1512. William Ritchie founded the Scotsman newspaper in 1817, and Alexander Ritchie was an Edinburgh artist of repute in the early half of the last century.
