The Book of St Andrews. Its ecclesiastical significance dates as far back as the fourth century, when St Regulus is claimed to have brought the relics of the saint there; its cultural importance dates from the early fifteenth century, when the world-famous university was founded there. More recently, since the seventeenth century, it has been well known as a centre for golf. Tour Scotland Photograph Beech Hedge Meikleour March 21st

Tour Scotland photograph shot today of the Beech Hedge at Meikleour, Perthshire, Scotland. The Meikleour Beech Hedge is located beside the A93 Perth to Blairgowrie Road. It was planted in the autumn of 1745 by Jean Mercer and her husband, Robert Murray Nairne on the Marquess of Lansdowne's Meikleour estate. It is said the hedge grows towards the heavens because the men who planted it were killed at the Battle of Culloden. The hedge is noted in the Guinness World Records as the tallest and longest hedge on earth, reaching 100 feet in height and 1/3 of a mile in length. The hedge is trimmed once every ten years but remains viewable to visitors all year round.

Tour Scotland Photographs Parish Church Kinclaven

Tour Scotland photograph of the Parish Church at Kinclaven, Perthshire, Scotland. Built 1848 on site of previous church. Mixed Romanesque and Tudor with a narthex at the west end and bellcote at the east end. This Scottish church is a very popular venue for weddings in Scotland.
