Tour Scotland Photographs Old Church St Monans East Neuk Of Fife

Tour Scotland photograph of the old church in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. St Monans Church is situated within its kirkyard just to the west of the village on the very edge of the sea. It has a very dramatic setting, perched on a low rock, reached over a small valley with a burn. As seen from most directions it has the sea as a backdrop. A more modern cemetery stands further westwards on the upper slopes of the little hill. This contains the local war memorial. Standing at the extreme west end of this a romantic ruin can be viewed across fields, again perched on the sea edge. It is often said that St Monans is the church nearest the sea in the whole of Scotland. The church, one of the finest remaining from the Middle Ages in Scotland, was built by King David II Bruce (1329-71), initially for a small house of Dominican friars. It later became the Church of Scotland parish church. Though the church may never have been finished, it has a choir and transepts, with a short spire over the crossing, but lacks a nave, it has many features of architectural interest, notably the fine stone vaulting in the choir and the plain but handsome sedilia. White-washed throughout internally, the church is particularly light and attractive among ancient Scottish churches.

October 30th Tour Video Black Watch Memorial Dunkeld Scotland

October 30th tour video of The Black Watch Memorial in Dunkeld Cathedral, Perthshire, Scotland. The Scottish Horse was a Yeomanry Regiment of the British Territorial Army from 1900 to 1956 when it was amalgamated with the The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry. The regiment saw heavy fighting in both the Great Wars as the 13th Battalion of The Black Watch and in World War II as part of The Royal Artillery. The Cathedral contains the above memorial to the Scottish Horse and a book of remembrance with the names off all who fell in the World Wars. In addition both of the guidons of the Scottish Horse are also lain up in the Cathedral. Each year on Remembrance Sunday the Regimental Association participates in the Church service in Dunkeld.

Tour Scotland Video Ancient Graveyard Dunkeld Cathedral Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of the ancient graveyard cemetery in the ruined part of the Cathedral in Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland. In AD 843, Scotland's first king, Kenneth I chose Scone as his capital. Fearing another Viking attack, he removed St Columba's relics from Iona and placed them in the care of a Celtic Monastery at Dunkeld. The relics are now said to lie under the chancel steps of Dunkeld Cathedral. A most unusual building, Dunkeld Cathedral is part ruins and part parish church of Dunkeld. The Cathedral is now full of historic relics including the tomb of Alexander Stewart. I didn't see or hear any ghosts today within this ancient graveyard.
