Featured here you'll find 40 inspiring short walks in and around the Kingdom, stretching from the north side of the famous Forth Bridges, along the Firth of Forth to Culross, and Gleneagles and Dollar further north, and then east beyond Kirkcaldy to Lower Largo and the picturesque fishing villages of Elie, St Monans, Anstruther, Pittenweem and Crail in the East Neuk. The volume travels north through Dunfermline and Glenrothes to Falkland and beyond to St Andrews, Tentsmuir Forest and the mighty Tay, with forays also into Kinross. Many of these circular routes are suitable for families and accessible by public transport. Kingdom of Fife: 40 Coast and Country Walks (Pocket Mountains).
Tour Scotland Autumn Video Old Church St Monans East Neuk of Fife
Tour Scotland Autumn travel video of the old church on history visit and trip to the coast of St Monans, East Neuk of Fife. St Monans Church is situated within its churchyard just to the west of the village on the very edge of the coast. It is often said that St Monans is the church nearest the sea in the whole of Scotland, and this may well be the case, being only around 60 feet from the edge. The church, one of the finest remaining from the Middle Ages in Scotland, was built by King David II Bruce, initially for a small house of Dominican friars. It later became the Church of Scotland parish church. Though the church may never have been finished (it has a choir and transepts, with a short spire over the crossing, but lacks a nave), it has many features of architectural interest, notably the fine stone vaulting in the choir and the plain but handsome sedilia. White washed throughout internally, the church is particularly light and attractive among ancient Scottish churches.
