Old Photographs Bunessan Isle Of Mull Scotland

Old photograph of cottages in Bunessan, Isle Of Mull, Scotland. Bunessan, in the past had a small fishing fleet, The village still has a thriving lobster fishery. Some of the largest lobsters in the west coast of Scotland can be found at the top[clarification needed] of Loch Scridain, in an area known as The Pool. The settlement is within the parish of Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon, and is situated on the A849.

Old Photograph Church Place Dumbarton Scotland

Old photograph of shops, people and Tram on Church Place, Dumbarton, Scotland. During World War II Dumbarton was heavily bombed by the German air force. The Germans were targeting the shipyards, and the area in the vicinity of the yards was consequently hit, with Clyde and Leven Street being severely damaged. In an attempt to lure the German aircraft away from the shipyards, decoy lights were routinely placed on the Kilpatrick hills above the town, lights were set out on reservoirs to mimic those of the shipyards reflecting on the waters of the Leven and Clyde. The ploy was sometimes successful in diverting the bombers and many bombs fell harmlessly onto the moors and lochs.

Old Photograph Castle Moil Skye Scotland

Old photograph of Castle Moil, Kyleakin, Isle of Skye, Scotland. This Scottish castle, an ancient seat of the Mackinnon clan, was a fortress commanding the narrow sound between Skye and the mainland, through which all ships had to pass or else attempt the stormy passage of The Minch. The present building dates back to the 15th century, but is traditionally reputed to be of much earlier origin.

Old Photographs Golf Course Girvan Scotland

Old photograph of golfers on the Golf Course in Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Girvan was originally a fishing port. In 1668, it became a municipal burgh incorporated by charter. The opening of the railways, initially with the Maybole and Girvan Railway at the end of the 1850s, encouraged the development of Girvan as a seaside resort.
