Old photograph of Broughty Castle near Dundee, Scotland. A historic castle in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland, completed around 1495 Although the site may have been first fortified in 1454 when the fourth Earl of Angus received permission to build on the site. The main tower house forming the centre of the castle with four floors was built by Andrew, 2nd Lord Gray who was granted the castle in 1490.

Old Photograph Galashiels Scotland


Old photograph of Galashiels, Scotland. Galashiels is a major commercial centre and central communication point for the Scottish Borders. Robert Burns wrote two poems about Galashiels, Sae Fair Her Hair and Braw Lads. The latter is sung by the some of the townsfolk each year at the Braw Lads Gathering. Sir Walter Scott built his home, Abbotsford, just across the River Tweed from Galashiels. The Sir Walter Scott Way, a long distance walking path from Moffat to Cockburnspath passes through Galashiels.

Old photograph vintage cars, shops buliding and people on the High Street, Peebles, Scotland. Initially a market town, Peebles played an important historic role in the woollen industry of the Borders. Initially a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen and textile industry of the Borders up until the 1960s. Although one woollen mill remains operational in the town, the industrial composition of Peebles has changed; the town is now home to many people who commute to work in Edinburgh, as well as being a popular tourist destination,

Old Photograph Battle of Largs Memorial Scotland


Old photograph of the Battle of Largs Memorial, Ayrshire, Scotland. The Battle of Largs was an engagement fought between the armies of Norway and Scotland near the present day town of Largs in North Ayrshire on the Firth of Clyde in Scotland on 2nd of October 1263. It was the most important military engagement of the Scottish-Norwegian War. The Norwegian forces were led by king Håkon Håkonsson and the Scottish forces by king Alexander III. The result was inconclusive, but in the long term favoured the Scots.
