Old Photograph Causeyside Street Paisley Scotland


Old photograph of Causeyside Street, Paisley, Scotland. In the mid 19th century, the street was devastated by one of the most destructive fires witnessed outside of Glasgow. It began in a cottage at the foot of St Mirren Brae, and spread all the way up Causeyside Street, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. It had started when a thatched roof caught fire, and within a matter of minutes, several roofs of similar thatch caught ablaze.

Old Photograph Lochboisdale Harbour South Uist Scotland


Old photograph of the harbour at Lochboisdale, South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Lochboisdale is within the parish of South Uist, and is situated on the shore of Loch Baghasdail at the southern end of the A865 road. The town profited from the herring boom in the 19th century, and a steamer pier was built in 1880. In 1905, a mission church was built, and by 1953, steamers were connecting Lochboisdale with Oban, Castlebay, Mallaig and Lochmaddy.

Old photograph of cars, shops,houses and people on Main Street, Inveraray, Scotland. This a town in Argyll and Bute is on the western shore of Loch Fyne, near its head, and on the A83 road. It is a former royal burgh, the traditional county town of Argyll, and ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll at Inveraray Castle.
