Tour Scotland short 4K Autumn travel video of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and Sporran and walking by trees and Kirkcormack Kirk on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to Dumfries and Galloway, Britain, United Kingdom. The church is traditionally believed to be dedicated to St Cormac, an early Celtic saint, suggesting that Christian worship on this isolated, peaceful site may date back to the early Christian or early medieval period. Record names show it noted as Kirchecormach in 1172. It was originally under the ecclesiastical care of the prestigious Abbey of Iona. In the late 12th century, Uchtred, Lord of Galloway, granted the church over to Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh. Local lore and historical anecdotes suggest that the site may have been visited by Mary, Queen of Scots during her fateful flight through Galloway toward Dundrennan Abbey in 1568. While the kirk itself is a long abandoned ruin, the graveyard remains active and quietly maintained. It contains an array of historic headstones. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome. Meteorological Autumn or Fall is different from standard and astronomical Autumn and begins September 1 and ends November 30
