Scotsman Walking Wearing Kilt On Toe Headland On History Visit To Isle Of Harris Scotland

Tour Scotland short 4K Autumn travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking on cliffs by Rubh' an Teampuill on Toe Headland on stormy ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip the coast of South Harris, Outer Hebrides, Britain, United Kingdom. Perched prominently on the headland lie the ruins of a medieval chapel built around the 15th or 16th century. For centuries, South Harris was the stronghold of the MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan. The clan chiefs managed the island's resources and fiercely guarded their territory from rival clans. The late 18th and 19th centuries brought profound hardship through the Highland Clearances. Clan chiefs transformed into commercial landlords, forcibly displacing thousands of local residents from the fertile, grassy machair of the west coast to make room for profitable large-scale sheep farming. The evicted families were pushed onto the harsh, rocky, and barren eastern fringe, the Bays of Harris. To survive, these communities turned to crofting and built intricate seaweed-fertilised lazy beds directly into the rock. For a long time, these eastern hamlets were only reachable by sea.
