Tour Scotland short 4K early Autumn travel video clip of a Scotsman walking wearing a Kilt and Sporran by St Peter’s Kirk and graveyard on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Sandwick on the coast of mainland Orkney Islands, Britain, United Kingdom. While the current building dates to the 19th century, the site itself has deep historical roots. The kirk was built partly on the foundations of a 1670 predecessor site, and historical context suggests the dedication to St Peter may stretch back to an even older Late Norse or medieval private chapel associated with the nearby Castle of Snusgar. The structure standing today was erected in 1836 by mason James Sinclair. In the 19th century, the church was the spiritual focal point for the surrounding area. Up to 544 people would pack into the pews at a single time, representing roughly half the parish population at the time, with each churchgoer legally allocated a mere 18 inches of seating space. Church is characterised by plain stone, simple roughcast harling, an Orkney slate roof, and a low western bellcote decorated with a ball finial. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day. Find things to see and do in Scotland where you are always welcome.
