Tour Scotland very short 4K Autumn travel video clip of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and sporran and walking by Clach an Trushal Standing Stone on history visit and trip to Island of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Britain, United Kingdom. This stone is located in the village of Ballantrushal on the west side of Lewis. Like many standing stones, it has been said that it marks the site of a great battle, the last one fought between the feuding Clan Macaulay and Clan Morrison, however it is actually the solitary upright stone remaining from a stone circle built about 5,000 years ago. It translates from Scottish Gaelic as the Stone of Compassion. Local oral tradition strongly maintains that the monolith marks the site of the final great battle between the historic feuding families of the area, the Macaulays of Uig and the Morrisons of Ness. Other legends state the stone was erected during the Viking era to mark the grave of a Norse warrior or prince who fell in combat nearby. Given its prominent position on a northwest facing hillside overlooking the Atlantic, some theories suggest it served as an ancient sea marker or beacon for prehistoric sailors. Also known as Clach an Truiseil, it is Scotland's tallest standing stone. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
