Tour Scotland 4K Autumn morning travel video of a road trip drive, with Scottish bagpipes music, on ancestry, genealogy, history visit to the High Street in Crieff in the Perthshire Highlands, Britain, United Kingdom. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, Crieff High Street was the epicenter of the October Tryst, which grew to become Scotland’s largest cattle market. Because Crieff sits precisely where the rugged Highlands meet the rolling Lowlands, it was the natural gathering point for Highlander drovers herding tens of thousands of black cattle down from Skye, the Hebrides, and northern hills. Following the Battle of Sheriffmuir during the 1715 rising, retreating Jacobite Highlanders passed through. Under orders to leave no shelter for advancing government forces, they systematically burned the entire town of Crieff to the ground. High Street had to be entirely rebuilt from the ashes. In February 1746, during the final Jacobite rebellion, Prince Charles Edward Stuart stayed on High Street at the old Drummond Arms Hotel. It was here, in the hotel's chambers, that he held his final war council before his forces marched north toward their ultimate defeat at the Battle of Culloden.
