The name " Sutor " derives from the Scots word for " shoemaker. " Local folklore claims the headlands were used as workbenches by two giant cobblers who tossed their tools to each other across the firth. The Cromarty Firth is an inlet of the Moray Firth. It was formed at the same time as Loch Ness and is a deep natural harbor. In 1912, it became a naval base.
