Spring Road Trip Drive With Music To Market Street On History Visit To St Andrews Fife Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K Spring travel video of a road trip drive, with Scottish bagpipes music, to Market Street on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to St Andrews, North East Fife, Britain, United Kingdom. For over 800 years, Market Street has served as the commercial and social heart of St Andrews. Originally established as a backstreet to provide access to properties on North and South Street, it evolved into the town's primary marketplace by the 14th century. St Andrews is a rare example of a planned medieval burgh. Market Street sits between the two wider streets, North and South Street, and is connected to them by a network of narrow lanes known as " wynds " or " closes ". In the Middle Ages, the Market area was also the site of public punishments and executions. St Andrews, known as the Home of Golf, is where the game has been played since the early 1400s. The iconic Old Course, with its natural links land, was formalized in 1754 by the Society of St Andrews Golfers. It is credited with creating the standard 18 hole round in 1764. Golf began on links land that was later threatened by bankruptcy in 1797, when the area was temporarily turned into a rabbit farm.
