It is a significant prehistoric site dating back over 4,000 years. The site was constructed during the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. While the exact use is unknown, it is widely believed to have served ritual or ceremonial purposes, possibly acting as a celestial calendar for tracking seasonal cycles or solar events. The circle is situated on the Lochbuie Estate, historically the seat of the Clan MacLaine of Lochbuie.
