This kind of road is common in rural areas across the United Kingdom and elsewhere. The term is widely used in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands and Island, to describe such roads. The Isle of Skye lies off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands and is one of the largest Hebridean Island. If you see a vehicle coming towards you, or the driver behind wants to overtake, try to pull into a passing place on your left, or wait opposite a passing place on your right. Give way to vehicles coming uphill whenever you can. If necessary, reverse until you reach a passing place to let the other vehicle pass.
