The freshwater loch is framed by the striking peaks of Quinag, Canisp, and Beinn Uidhe. The surrounding Assynt region is famous for its unique geology, carved by glaciers, which has exposed some of the oldest rock formations on the planet. The loch is situated northeast of the village of Lochinver.
